4 Corners Gallery, Pottery & Studio opened in the autumn of 2012 when Steve Smith moved his old Smithworks Studio to the lake. Located at 4 Corners, where Lakes James and Jimmerson Lake come together, it is a charming haven for gallery shoppers.
Originally, the building was two kit log cabins built in the 1920’s. After an adventurous and sometimes sordid past, Steve acquired the property and began a full renovation including the addition of a large workshop for future classes, woodworking, and blacksmithing. The pottery studio is in the original one car garage, a tight space for three full time potters to work in but certainly productive. One of the original cabins, on the right side, was transformed into a quaint but modern gallery featuring the work of a dozen national award winning artists. The left cabin is the home of resident potter, Jennifer Creighton (so don’t go peaking in the windows!).
The gallery is open weekends early May through Christmas. There is usually something going on though, so if you drive by and see lights on in the garage, stop in. Otherwise, give Steve a call or drop us a note on Facebook for an appointment to visit the studio and gallery. Steve, Jen and Rebecca all live close by. There is a good chance one of them will be available to meet you there if you just can’t live without a cool new bit of art.
