Jennifer Creighton is a full -time studio potter based in Northeastern Indiana. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies and a minor in Religious Studies at Defiance College in Defiance, Ohio. She began to work in clay during her senior year of college, and after a year of AmeriCorps service, apprenticed under her former professor, Steve Smith at 4 Corners Gallery, Studio and Pottery in Angola, Indiana. Since that time, she has worked to develop and fine tune her line of personal ceramic products, focusing on form, function, and simply beautiful surfaces. ”Form and function are so important in ceramics; how a mug’s lip touches mine, how a bowl curves in my hand, seeing how the light plays off the surface… all of these components must be considered during the development and making of a ceramic piece that is intended to not only be pleasing to the eye, but to function as one wants it to. I believe that handcrafted items can take an otherwise forgettable or harried moment and turn it into something more. Something to be remembered, and enjoyed.” Always wanting to travel, learn, and share, Jennifer’s international ventures include tours of Greece and Spain with the Defiance College Honors Program. She traveled to Cambodia with the Defiance College McMaster School for Advancing Humanity to instruct women in family planning techniques and economics, and traveled with Steve Smith to Nicaragua in 2013 to train a women’s pottery cooperative in collaboration with Potters for Peace.
